Career Day
Back in November Julia’s class got to start preparing for
her career day. They got to choose what
career to talk about by picking a piece of paper from a hat.
She was so excited when she got home one day telling me that
she was going to be a “generator”. Not
knowing what she was talking about I just said well ok. The following week a
sheet accompanied instructions and detail what career she had pick at random.
She was NOT a generator, thank goodness, that would of being way out of my
league to investigate. She was a Janitor.
I thought she was disappointed with her assignment but the
more we research and learn about it the more interesting the job got. She was
after all the main Janitor of a rural area, and the most important person in
town because all of the work she did to keep the only rural school going and
working properly. She knew everyone in town and the entire community respected
and cherished her.
The second graders got to expose their topics to the entire
school during an assembly and then got a special presentation for the parents.
They had to do a poster, a 3D advertisement and they got to create their own art piece.
On top of this they got to expose everything they had learned about their career in Spanish as well as in English. Pretty cool and intimidating if you ask me!
Julia did an amazing job and was so confident with her Spanish it was great to watch her talk to parents and answer their questions in Spanish.
Tumbling Meet #2: Roy H.S
Julia had her second tumbling meet. Thank goodness this one
was closer to home. Julia did an amazing job again! She placed third once again
but there were twice as many girls competing than at the first meeting and her
overall score improve by 2 tenths of a point.
Valentine’s Day
The kids got to
exchange valentine cards with their peers at school, they worked all day the
before writing their friends names. Since we are not allowed to bring candy
Julia decided to bring stickers for her friends and josh brought pencils for
his buddies.
Julia was thrilled with the hairstyle I made for her that
day. for dinner that night, chicken chili with heart shaped corn bread YUM
Joy school
It is my turn to teach joy school again. I had so much fun teaching them about America. Andrew loved being George W. and Abe L. Daniel on the other hand had fun playing with the play dough from beginning to end.
Federation
As if competing in tumbling wasn’t enough, Julia also wanted to compete on Federation. She had to play two pieces. One of them was Chimi changa cha cha which she had to memorize and the other one was a sleeping Beauty solo that she could play with an open book.
Since this post is so long ago a couple of weeks after that performance she got her scores. She scored 5 out of 5 with a Superior Performance. I don’t think there is anything that Julia can’t do.
