August 2013

I can’t believe it’s been this long since my last post. Life has just gotten so darn busy but here is my attempt to catch up.

Swimming lessons
The kids had their swimming lessons. Joshua and Andrew were put on the same class. Joshua was a bit terrified of the deep end although it wasn't that deep. Andrew didn't care he just through himself in the water each time and was confident that his teacher would catch him. Julia’s front crawl still needs some work but her back stroke is strong. She loved diving and jumping off the edge of the pool.

Davis Fair
The kids and I ventured alone to the fair this year. The number 1 attraction was the elephant rides.  When I was little I got to ride on an elephant and I was hoping the kids could get the same experience. We got there right after lunch. Daniel got to participate on a baby contest and took second place but I forgot to take any pictures.
The kids had fun looking at the exhibits. Their favorite one was definitely the scales and tales one. They got to touch some of the animals. Andrew was having the time of his life.

We had some snow cones and then we were off to see the elephants. I was so disappointed to discover that they were charging $15 per person to ride on them. I wasn't going to spend $75 for a 2-minute ride, so this was the closest we got.
Julia ran into her best friend from school. She and Kennedy had a great time catching up. After that we went to the rides.

Julia was so excited to be tall enough to ride on all of the big ones.
Daniel had a marvelous time admiring everything from his stroller.

AYSO season launch party
Every year AYSO put a party for all the player this year was no exception. There were crafts and games for the kids. Free food for everyone and the special guest was the Real Salt Lake lion.

We had a great night!

Joshua’s soccer

This year Joshua finally decided that he wanted to start playing soccer. He was so happy the day that he got his uniform. His team name since they couldn't decide on one is” the green gobbling dragons”.
In Ayso they get 30 minutes of practice and 30 minutes of game. The first half was perfect. He loved his new soccer ball, his coach, his 4 teammates, his uniform and his soccer shoes (which he kept staring at). He was so proud of dribbling the ball by himself and scoring goals. The entire notion changed once the real game started.
He was terrified and petrified. He didn't move from his spot. He kept looking at me with as asking me why I had brought him into this.
5 minutes into the game he started crying. He felt defeated by a ball that he couldn’t manage to keep to himself. Those other boys kept taking it from him were his words.
We never stop cheering for him and other parents started to cheer him on as well. He needed that encouragement so bad and I am so grateful to all those parents helping me out that day. After that first game he just kept getting better and better. He plays defense well and is awesome at passing the ball to his teammates. He even scored a goal before the season was over.
I can’t believe the summer went by so fast. Between movie Tuesdays, library project days on Wednesdays, Saturday building projects and swim lessons we kept pretty busy now it is time to get ready for a new school year and that very important first day.
Julia's Soccer
Julia started soccer as well. her team is called the Stinging Hornets. She got a new coach this year so she didn't get to be with her friends from our neighborhood. Lucky for her though, her best friend, Marquessa was in her team and that made her happy.
This year she started having an hour practice during the week and an hour game on Saturdays. She loves soccer and giving her best comes easy to her.
Her team won 8 out of the 9 games they had this season. She score a goal in every game which was really cool. She is becoming quite the soccer player.
The best game to remember was the one Grandma and grandpa came to watch. Her team score 8 goals and she got 7 of them.
This new coach has taught the girls how to play in all the positions. She enjoys playing on all of them but her favorite is mid field for sure.

Goodbye Training wheels

It was Spencer’s day off from work and he decided Joshua was ready to start riding his bike without training wheels.  Spencer spent some time alone with him practicing on our front yard. By the end of the day he was riding his bike like a pro. The next morning he was excited to go outside and ride his bike some more.
Cole is Joshua’s best friend. They are 3 months apart in age and live next door to each other. They have the same bikes. Cole had been watching Josh the night before and decided he wanted his training wheels off too. So these two boys were riding up and down the street helping and encouraging each other. It was so cute to see them together.
